The circus has arrived at Britex Fabrics’ 2nd floor cotton area! This cotton quilting-weight fabric is inspired by the folk art masterpiece, The Kirk Bros. Circus, a miniature carved circus made by Mr. Kirk between 1910 and 1954. I love the aerial bicyclist, and can almost taste the peanuts and hear the galloping horses. This fabric is 100% cotton, 44” wide and $14.99/yard. Please email M. Du Jour at Britex Fabrics if you want to buy this fabric, and you will be guided to the correct department.

These super-duper cute cotton prints would make colorful kids shirts, smocks, baby bibs, or playroom curtains. They are also ideal for sillier adults with a hankering for snazzy and bright apparel. One print is filled with a crowd of smiling anthropomorphic squash, broccoli, onions and other veggies. The other depicts wacky camping critters, including wide-eyed owls, marshmallow toasting squirrels, purple bunnies, and their camping accouterments. This 100% cotton fabric is 44” wide, $14.99/yard, and can be found on Britex Fabric’s 2nd floor.

Please email M. Du Jour at Britex Fabrics if you want to buy this fabric.

We love this taupe, cream, pink and maroon cotton home decorating fabric. Its giant wine-colored puffs remind me of cotton bolls. I want to cover wicker loveseat cushions with this, and then kick back with a glass of lemonade and an Agatha Christie novel, while listening to “Ol’ Man River” from the classic musical, Showboat.
“Ol’ man river,
Dat ol’ man river
He mus’ know sumpin’
But don’t say nuthin’,
He jes’ keeps rollin’
He keeps on rollin’ along.”
(By K. Kern and O. Hammerstein)

A tiny tawny mouse whispered into my dozing ear that Britex Fabrics will be getting a new shipment of Liberty of London cotton lawn in the next week! Since 1875, Liberty has been synonymous with luxury and great design. In 1975 Liberty celebrated its centenary, which was heralded by a major exhibition at the esteemed Victoria and Albert Museum. Direct from England, Liberty is taking the U.S. by storm! I yearn for a standing collar fitted shirt, with wide French cuffs made of this spectacularly soft cotton fabric in a peacock feathered print.

Jennifer sent us photos of her handiwork. She says, “All of these Japanese-style fabrics are from Britex. Two of the coats are “personal designs”, and three are from combined patterns to make each more unique. Each coat is lined with silk, and has an inside pocket with a Betty Boop button, just for fun. Working with beautifully weighted cottons, rayon, or tapestry fabrics is the best reason to sew!” Photos were taken by Paul Kirshner Studios.
